Located in Currimundi on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, Marigold House showcases how thoughtful design can transform accessibility into beauty. Designed by Brinnie T Design, the project was commissioned by Michelle and Andy Orr for their blended family, including Michelle’s son Alec, an 18-year-old living with Sanfilippo Syndrome who requires considerable daily care support.
Creating a home that balanced family life with care needs required both empathy and technical precision. Altro Safety Wood flooring was selected throughout the home for its slip resistance, comfort, and ease of cleaning, allowing carers and family members to move confidently through daily routines. In Alec’s accessible ensuite, Altro Aquarius provides reliable traction in barefoot and wet conditions, while Altro Whiterock walling delivers durable, hygienic protection without compromising warmth or aesthetic appeal.
Brinnie T Design collaborated with DV Constructions and Iconic by Design to ensure every detail integrated seamlessly — from circulation paths to finishes — creating a space that supports safety, independence, and emotional wellbeing.
“The integration of a well thought out modified living space has enabled care to be given with safety and ease,” said homeowner Michelle Orr.
With its balanced use of safety materials, layered textures, and calming palette, Marigold House is a living example of accessible design done beautifully — where form, function, and fabulous meet.
“The final design exceeded our expectations. We have been amazed how, through clever design and intelligent use of wasted space, Jo has transformed our home. Deft use of colours, textures and build have given us a tranquil, functional and calming haven.”

“As an avid home cook and entertainer, the kitchen and living room design is simply brilliant. As parents of a highly disabled adult, the integration of a well thought out modified living space has enabled care to be given with safety and ease.” Andy Orr

Frequently Asked Questions
Can accessible interior design still look beautiful and residential?
Yes. At Brinnie T Design, we integrate accessibility and safety features in ways that feel warm, layered and personal—never clinical—so the home supports care needs while still reflecting the family’s style.
Why use safety flooring in a family home?
Safety flooring can reduce slip risk and support mobility and care routines, especially where there is assisted support throughout the day. Products like Altro Safety Wood can deliver slip resistance with a natural, residential look.
What makes a carer-friendly bathroom different?
A carer-friendly bathroom supports assisted showering and personal care with safe circulation space, reliable wet-area slip resistance, and thoughtfully positioned supports—helping carers provide care safely and with dignity.
Why choose Altro Whiterock walling in an accessible bathroom?
Altro Whiterock is a hygienic wall system that’s durable, easy to clean, and removes grout lines where moisture and mould can build up—ideal for high-use bathrooms requiring consistent hygiene maintenance.
What bathroom supports were used for Alec’s ensuite?
We integrated Nero's Mecca Care bathroom supports which were selected for stability, usability and a streamlined aesthetic, so the space remains calm and cohesive while supporting safe assisted care.
