Featuring a custom sauna, vaulted ceiling and copper feature wall, this design shows how even small bathrooms can feel expansive and deeply personal.
Ensuite Renovation & Sanctuary Retreat — Phillip Island / Melbourne Interiors by Brinnie T Design
From tired and outdated to a truly personal retreat, this ensuite transformation proves that even the smallest spaces can be reimagined into something extraordinary.
Once a mould-prone bathroom, the space is now a haven of wellness, complete with a built-in sauna — the ultimate indulgence for relaxation at home. The hero of the design is the vanity wall, where shimmering copper alloy feature tiles catch the light and create a sense of warmth and luxury.
A reclaimed vintage vanity in soft mint has been lovingly restored and retrofitted to suit modern needs, topped with an amber glass above-counter basin for a jewel-like finish.
The palette continues with copper tapware and shower fittings, bringing richness and warmth throughout. Even the window reveal is tiled, creating a seamless, detail-driven finish.
To open up the room, the ceiling was lifted and exposed to reveal a vaulted ceiling, instantly giving a sense of height, space, and grandeur. This ensuite is more than functional — it’s a carefully considered sanctuary, where every element from heritage touches to modern indulgences was chosen to enrich daily rituals.

"I was not initially looking for an interior designer (as I thought they just picked the colour of a vase) but I am so glad I got one! Jo guided me through the whole construction process, bringing a wonderful team of builders and tradies for the ride. But most striking is Jo's aesthetic vision - she could take on board my needs and style and turn it into something stunning - that still felt like mine."
